SILVER TERRACE RECREATION CENTER
SCHEDULED FOR VOLUNTEER ‘FACELIFT’ PROJECT
SAN FRANCISCO, Ca - San Francisco Parks Trust’s next Project ReCreation volunteer workday is scheduled at Silver Terrace Recreation Center & Playground on Saturday, May 28, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, located on the corner of Silver Avenue and Ledyard Street.
The goal of Project ReCreation is to enhance the lives of San Franciscans – who look to the City for safe and healthy recreational outlets – by assembling teams of volunteers to provide critically needed upgrades and improvements to high-use neighborhood playgrounds and recreation centers. The number of uses at the first nine sites selected for Project ReCreation topped 1.6 million.
The Silver Terrace Project ReCreation anticipates 75 volunteers working side-by-side with experienced San Francisco Recreation and Parks personnel to undertake numerous painting projects and the creation of a community garden.
During the past 18 months San Francisco Parks Trust completed nine Project ReCreation workdays, contributing more than $100,000 in value and 1,200 hours of volunteer time at Jackson Playground, Margaret Hayward Playground, Mission Playground, West Sunset Playground, Boeddeker Park, Sunset Recreation Center, Herz Playground and Clubhouse, Fulton Recreation Center, and Hayes Valley Playground and Recreation Center.
San Francisco Parks Trust Executive Director Amy Jean Boebel explains, “Many of San Francisco’s neighborhood facilities have a critical need for repairs and upgrades. These centers provide desperately needed recreational and cultural opportunities. In some neighborhoods, the center is the community’s primary gathering place. Our program will continue to grow due to City budgetary cutbacks, as many centers that were scheduled to receive renovations have been waitlisted, and Project ReCreation assists in carrying out some of those improvements”.

ABOUT US & WHAT WE DO
San Francisco Parks Trust is the recently adopted name for the vital non-profit organization that has operated as Friends of Recreation & Parks for the past 34 years. San Francisco Parks Trust [SFPT] will continue the organization’s commitment to protecting, enhancing and promoting stewardship for San Francisco’s parks, recreation centers and open spaces, and provide funding for critically needed programming and activities for residents throughout the City.
“Our organization has been a fundraising leader in the Campaign to Restore the Conservatory of Flowers which raised $25 million towards the restoration and transformation of this historic landmark, renovating the historic Beach Chalet and opening the first San Francisco Parks Visitor Center”, noted SFPT Executive Director Amy Jean Boebel. “Most people are aware of the large projects we’ve initiated, but we’re also committed to supporting neighborhood communities through several important grassroots neighborhood projects, like Project ReCreation, Project JumpStart, and our Music in the Parks free concert series”.
SFPT has also led the fundraising efforts to restore Golden Gate Park’s Children’s Playground and Carousel, renovation of the Coit Tower murals, restoration of the Music Concourse Fountains and Shakespeare Garden.
